A Personal Note About Why I’m Making Secure by Habit Free

Clete is giving Secure by Habit to everyone.

Dear friends,

I am doing something a little different this week. I am postponing my weekly coffee chat because I wanted to take a moment to share something that is very close to my heart. Thank you to those of you who have read Secure by Habit, and thank you for caring enough about your digital life and the people around you to keep learning how to stay safe online. My hope is that this book has done more than simply pass along information. I hope it has offered some clarity, some confidence, and a practical path forward. From the beginning, my goal has been simple: to help ordinary people stay safer online without fear, jargon, or unnecessary complexity.

When I first started writing Secure by Habit, I approached it the way many people approach a new book project. I wanted to create something useful, polished, and worth buying. But somewhere along the way, it became much more personal to me. I kept thinking about people I know, people I care about, and how often good, honest people get hurt online simply because no one ever taught them a few basic habits. I could not stop thinking about that. The more I worked on the book, the more I realized this was not just information. It was protection. It was peace of mind. And once I saw it that way, I knew I wanted to make it as accessible as I possibly could.

The truth is, I have been blessed in more ways than I deserve, and I try not to lose sight of that. Society has been very good to me. I have had opportunities to learn, to grow, to build a career, and to develop skills that can genuinely help people in a world that becomes more digitally complicated every year. Making Secure by Habit freely available as an ebook is one small way I can give something back. It is my way of taking what I have been given and putting it into the hands of anyone who may need it, whether they are in a position to buy a book or not.

So I want to make this promise clearly and publicly: ebook versions of Secure by Habit will always be available free of charge at cletustaylor.com, including the current versions, all future editions, and any translations we are able to publish over time. I am putting the English version on the website today, and I expect the Spanish version to be available by the end of the week. No payment. No subscription. No barrier to access. If this book can help someone protect themselves, their family, or their community online, I want them to be able to get it.

If this message resonates with you, I would ask one simple favor: please share this information with the people you care about. Send them the website. Tell them the ebook is free. Pass it along to parents, grandparents, students, friends, coworkers, church members, neighbors, or anyone else who could benefit from learning a few simple habits that make life online safer. We all know someone who is just one scam, one weak password, or one bad click away from a very difficult day. The more widely this message spreads, the more people we can help protect.

I also want to extend a very personal invitation. If you are someone who believes in giving back and would like to teach Secure by Habit in your community, I would truly love to hear from you. The same is true if you would be willing to help me translate the book into more languages so more people can benefit from it. If either of those speaks to you, please reach out to me directly at hello@cletustaylor.com. I would be grateful to connect and see what we might be able to do together.

Thank you again for reading, for caring about your own safety, and for helping spread the word. Secure by Habit has become more than a book to me. It has become one practical way I can serve, equip others, and hopefully help build stronger digital habits in the places where people live and work every day. And before I close, I also wanted to share one more personal update: Book 1 in the Finding Truth series, A Student of Habit, is currently in proof review and should be out within the next two weeks. I also expect an early ebook release to be available on the website by the end of the week. I am excited to share more soon, and I am deeply grateful to everyone who has encouraged this work and helped it grow.
